Insomnia Remedies

Insomnia remedies are different from insomnia medication in that they could not be classified under either insomnia medication or insomnia therapy. Insomnia remedies do not come in pill form (as sleep medication tends to be) nor do they require that you change your sleeping habits. Instead, insomnia remedies are aides that encourage you to sleep in one way or another.

For example, insomnia remedies include exercise, which encourages healthy exhaustion and deep sleep. Other insomnia remedies include sensory deprivation (earplugs and the like, which prevent them from becoming distracted from their sleep), meditation and relaxation exercises (calming the mind down is known to help people fall asleep), as well as a change in diet – taking in more melatonin from food sources such as rice, tomatoes, oats and the like is known to be an effective means of encouraging people to sleep.

Insomnia remedies are not treatments as such, but they do help when a person is undergoing insomnia therapy while opting to not take insomnia medication. In other words, they are usually short-term remedies until the real cause of the insomnia is identified and treated properly. That is not to say that insomnia remedies are not at all effective – they are, and more often than not, they are far safer options than insomnia medications.
